Our Texas Lightweight Stone Panels are prominently on display at the University of Texas-Dallas Bioengineering and Science Building. Built by the Beck Group in Dallas, this project is described by Beck: “This expansion project was top priority for sustaining UT Dallas’ growth into a nationally prominent research university and expanding its existing bioscience program. The addition serves as the home for UT Dallas’ programs in bioengineering and neuroscience. It also provides additional research space for related programs in biology, physics, chemistry and electrical and mechanical engineering.”
Trimstone® lightweight stone panels brought a series of key advantages to this, or any, design team:
- Easy to install.
- Extremely lightweight.
- Impact resistant.
- Freeze/thaw stable.
- Cost effective
- Thin panel profile.
- Rapid production.
- Moisture resistant.
- Flexible panel sizing.
This particular project utilized 52,000 sq. ft. of Moca Cream Trimstone® panels. Factory-assembled miters and window returns facilitated the installation of these Texas Lightweight Stone Panels.
As the natural stone industry in the United States continues to evolve, it is becoming abundantly clear that the future of stone facades lies in lightweight stone panel systems. Here are four technical advances that have been instrumental in moving this product forward:
- Precision stone cutting.
- Aluminum honeycomb technology.
- “Space-age” adhesives.
- Aluminum extrusions.
Each of these is a piece to the puzzle in the efficient use of stone panels as a 21st Century facade.
