Natural Stone Lightweight Panels Used to Create Modern Exterior
Trimstone Natural Stone Lightweight Panels Used to Create Modern Exterior at University of Texas ECSW Engineering Building
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering & Computer Science commissioned Smithgroup to build a new Engineering Building to house the Mechanical Engineering program. Four-stories high with 200,000 sq. feet of space, it has enough room for 8200 students and faculty. This design masterpiece used a combination of glass and Trimstone Natural Stone Lightweight Panels on the exterior façade.
With all ducts, pipes and elevators exposed through the glass walls, students are able to see the mechanics of this building at work. Natural, Moca Cream Limestone from Portugal was used in the fabrication of the Trimstone panels used to embellish the modern exterior while creating an inviting atmosphere to all visitors.
The geometric pattern on the exterior walls required over 5,000 individual panels to be installed, made up of more than 1,000 different sizes. The largest panel sizes fabricated were 62″ x 121″. Natural stone panels by our competitors cannot be made this large. Factory assembled miter returns as long as 120″ were installed on site with great ease.
